Description

During this course, Chentar will teach you how to design and hand-throw ceramic pieces. You will have 4 kilos of clay at your disposal and you can choose for yourself what you want to create with it. Be careful though, at this beginner level it can only be simple shapes and objects such as bowls, cups with or without saucers, or mugs.

The first session will be devoted to learning how to throw and to the actual throwing. You will learn how to work the clay to prepare it, then how to adjust your wheel and finally how to throw and assemble the shape(s) you have chosen. You will then learn how to dry your pieces so that you can trim them.

During the second session the pieces will therefore be trimmed. This consists of shaping a part, refining it, and creating a small foot if necessary. At the end of these first two sessions, your pieces will be fired a first time to obtain what we call biscuits.

The last session will be devoted to glazing. You’ll learn how glazes are created by mixing ground rock powders found in nature, such as silica (the main ingredient), kaolin, and feldspar, into water. Above all, you will learn how to apply enamel to your pieces depending on the result you want to obtain.  You will have to choose from four different colors.

At the end of the course, your pieces will be fired one last time and you can come and collect them from the workshop after a few days.
